Radio-X-ray correlation and the "quiescent state'' of black hole sources

چکیده
Recently a correlation between the radio and X-ray luminosities is found, LR ∝ L 0.7 X , in black hole sources including black hole candidates in our galaxy and active galactic nuclei. We first attempt to understand the correlation in the context of an accretion-jet model developed for explaining the spectral and timing properties of XTE J1118+480. We find that this model can explain the observed correlation. More importantly, we show that when the X-ray luminosity is below a critical value, . 10–10LEdd, the correlation should turn and become steeper, LR ∝ L 1.23 X , and the X-ray radiation of the system should be dominated by the emission from the jet, rather than by the accretion flow. Possible observational evidence for our predictions is presented and future observations to further test our predictions are proposed. Revisiting the radio/X-ray flux correlation in the black hole V404 Cyg: from outburst to quiescence
We report results of Chandra X-ray and VLA radio observations of the Galactic accreting black hole V404 Cyg (GS 2023+338) in its quiescent state. V404 Cyg is detected at its faintest level of radio and X-ray emission with a 0.5–10 keV unabsorbed luminosity of 8.3 × 10 (d/3.5 kpc) erg s. The X-ray spectrum fit with an absorbed power-law model yields a photon index of 2.17 ± 0.13. Contrary to pre...
متن کاملJets from the faintest black holes
The question whether quiescent black hole X-ray binaries are capable of powering relativistic outflows is addressed by means of simultaneous radio/X-ray observations of a nearby system steadily emitting X-rays below 10−8 times the Eddington luminosity. The robust detection of a radio counterpart suggests that a synchrotron emitting outflow is being powered by this system, even though its degree...
متن کاملA universal radio:X–ray correlation in low/hard state black hole binaries
Several independent lines of evidence now point to a connection between the physical processes that govern radio (i.e. jet) and X–ray emission from accreting X–ray binaries. We present a comprehensive study of (quasi–)simultaneous radio:X–ray observations of stellar black hole binaries during the spectrally hard X–ray state, finding evidence for a strong correlation between these two bands over...
متن کاملBlack hole X-ray binary jets
Relativistic jets powered by stellar mass black holes in X-ray binaries appear to come in two types: steady outflows associated with hard X-ray states and large scale discrete ejections associated with transient outbursts. We show that the broadband radio spectrum of a ‘quiescent’ stellar mass black hole closely resembles that of canonical hard state sources emitting at four orders of magnitude...
متن کاملA Scheme to Unify Low-Power Accreting Black Holes Jet-Dominated Accretion Flows and the Radio/X-Ray Correlation
We explore the evolution in power of black holes of all masses, and their associated jets, within the scheme of an accretion rate-dependent state transition. Below a critical value of the accretion rate all systems are assumed to undergo a transition to a state where the dominant accretion mode is optically thin and radiatively inefficient. In these significantly sub-Eddington systems, the spec...
